Friends for life - from childhood friendships to children of our own
Today is the birthday of my inaanak (goddaughter) Jelana, daughter of my childhood and other Bestfriend, Jam. I can't believe it is already 5 years ago since we last knew she was pregnant. I mean we were already of age but the situation that she got pregnant was just untimely, maybe because she just got out of a relationship, she has a very conservative family, she was a public figure (a city councilor) among others. We have to keep her condition under wraps. She would wear spanx and let me buy her preggo milk. And yet those were special times. It never stopped us from doing what we usually do. We were "partners in crime", travels and gimik wise. What stuck the most was our trip to Boracay with the other girls while she was 3 months on the way. We would joke how in spite of our age we never had a one night stand. So we tried going to Juice bar that night only to find out that this bar is actually a usual hang out for the pink market.. But we had loads of fun that night. My cousin, Arlene who was the youngest of our group was with us and we would let her approach the guys and she would tell them, "hey my friend wants to meet you" and we would just laugh after. I wanted to meet that chinito looking guy, maybe he's from Singapore or Korea. I used to have a thing for chingky eyed guys. But he just never took a glance at me. So maybe he's more into boys. We have lots of funny memories of that night. We didn't manage to have a one night stand though. But those were one for the books.. Anyways forward to present - Jam is a doting mom, she's still in politics although one in the background - she works for the senate. We would still go out from time to time. I would stay with her when I'm in Manila. We are still each other's trusted confidante. And Nana is growing up beautifully - wise, pretty and has a strong personality like her mom..

Old post: (Ilang Ilang at heart)
have chaired the YLEA years back . It's a project of my organization the Junior chamber Philippines to give awards to deserving student leaders and since its graduation times I remember how it was attending many high school and elementary recognitions and graduations rites giving these medals and certificates. I remember how I cried with the graduation speech of one student in a state University. You know the usual struggle of poor students trying to make ends meet while trying to excel in school. I've also attended graduations from exclusive schools. My workmates have the laugh when I told them an anecdote about me attending the graduation of Westbridge High School and everyone was dressed to the nines and I was just in my jeans and the polo shirt with the JCI logo. The guard ask me if I was the caterer. Lol
It's amazing that I also could do more of my community involvement thru my company CSR. I'll be soon making a project with the indigenous people of living in Guimaras island even if I'm not that active with my JCI organization. We just gotta do our share in our little way, with whatever time and resources we are given no matter how small we may think they are..
Anyway this was my thought on graduation: you have to go out and change the world but there are things that should remain, like friendships and family...
