But the commute is often a shared experience between people. Although most have already adapted the "respect urban solitude" but most people still have that sense of community in a jeepney. Maybe because I live in a small town. But in a jeepney its usual that you are expected to have an interaction with your co riders because you have to pass or receive the money from another person to the driver. And you get to eavesdrop in the conversation, you get to see some PDAs and see emotions. I even have that urge to read text messages being written while someone is using their phone in the commute. Going back, when I realized that I'm nearing my destination that I need to pay I don't have my coin purse. I knew that my wallet only has 500 bucks and I was too self conscious to pay for the 10 pesos jeepney transpo because I know I would piss the driver. You know "Barya Lang Sa umaga". But I still proceed to give the money and avoid having eye contact with the driver. Alas he has to give back to money. I still never gave up and continue to rummage my bag for whatever coins I may have and then this old lady who's a seat apart from Me handed me 10 pesos and said "Kaluoy sang driver" pity the driver...I was so touched and thanked her. I am thinking about this random acts of kindness and how am I able to pass it forward. Truly the spirit of community is still alive. To that old lady, God bless your heart!
